About Me
In a nutshell, I’m an 28 year old graphic / web designer, living in sunny Queensland (Australia). By day I do graphic / web / video & audio related stuff, and by night I run my own company doing design & DJ work, or lighting & sound setup & control for small concert productions.
As a DJ…
I believe that I’m strictly what one would call a “non-professional / bedroom DJ” mixing dance and house. I’ve only done a few live gigs in my life – playing mainly to friends and companies that hire me & my services for small events (i.e. never more than 500 people in the audience).
My favourite clubs in Brisbane would have to be The Beat (Top 40 / Dance) & GPO (House) – mainly for the style of music that each venue plays, and each has their own character.
What’s in a name?
Many people ask me where my nickname comes from. It all started when I was 17. I decided to go to a party wearing a bit of eyeliner and was so drunk at the end of it that I just kind-of passed out in bed.
The next morning, I awoke to find my eyeliner smudged all over my face in black splotches – not to dissimilar from the black spots on a panda… and hence, the nickname was born.
Inspiration
I’ve always loved music, theatre and audio / visual stuff – but mainly from a behind-the-scenes background. Having worked on concert productions as both a lighting and audio technician, I love the stress and excitement that comes with running a live show. My DJing inspiration, however, comes from a very different source. When I was 18 and first hit the clubs, I remember looking up at the DJ booth in awe… wondering what gear they used and how they practiced their art.
It wasn’t until a few months later that I actually met a Gold Coast DJ on a ‘night off’ up in a Brisbane club. We clicked, and ended up dating for a few months. During that time, he was kind enough to teach my his DJing skill and from there, I was sold! So thank you Simon Fox, for being my inspiration and starting me off on my musical journey. =)
As far as ongoing inspiration, I listen to a number of American internet radio stations for at least 7 hours a day while working. My two favourite stations would have to be Music One and Radio Danz… both stations are similar, playing new dance tracks well before we hear them over here in the clubs or on the radio.
Interests
I love DJing (of course), music, clubbing, having a few drinks with mates, dancing (this usually follows drinking) and anything to do with audio & visual, sound & lighting, multimedia and staging. As I get older, I’m finding that the Brisbane clubbing scene is getting a bit stale and same-same, but I still enjoying mixing at home and publishing said mixes on here for others to enjoy.
Other DJ’s I know include Sydney’s Stephen Simpson (ARQ Sydney & The Wickham in Brisbane), Gold Coast ex-mainstream DJ Simon Fox (Resurrection), Sydney trance DJ Ruby (from Ruby Dance – the most amazing trance laser lightshow you’ve ever seen! …ARQ Sydney, The Wickham + many others internationally), DJ Sparkles in Brisbane (GPO, Family & The Columbian), and a few other up & coming DJs.
Keep my mixes alive
Paying for server traffic in Australia is expensive, so please donate what you can to help me keep this website alive. Donations are also used to purchase new DJ equipment so that I can keep my mixes coming.
Thank you…
